Oncology is a branch of medical science that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A professional who practices oncology is called an Oncologist. Cancer treatment is a well structured philosophy wherein different specialists come together to offer comprehensive treatment to the patient. Doctors of mainly three main disciplines provide treatment to the cancer patients. A doctor who performs cancer surgeries is known as Surgical Oncologist or Onco-Surgeon. The doctor who gives chemotherapy (cancer medicine) is called as Medical Oncologist and the one who treats with radiotherapy is referred to as Radiation Oncologist. Apart from these specialities other important team members are Plastic Surgeons, Onco-Pathologist, Intervention Radiologist, Physiotherapist, Speach and Swallow therapist, Stoma care and Wound management nurse, Clinical psychologist etc.
